"Finding yourself. "

Finding yourself is a term that everybody knows, but doesn’t have the same meaning for everybody. Not everyone understands it either. In this post, as well as in all my other posts, I will present my perspectives and hope that some of you can relate or even take something from it.

There was a time when I had no idea what “finding yourself” meant. I was asking myself a lot of times how people can find themselves, or what they actually mean by that.

Is that even a real thing, or do people just say it? Is it another mainstream term that people just use like that?

A while later, I got an understanding for what it could actually mean. The more I experienced and grew as a person (another one of these cool terms), the more I understood what finding myself meant for me.

Through my time in America, I had the chance to find myself. It was an interesting journey. An important journey, on which I learned a lot about me and what really matters to me. About what I really need and want in my life. I will tell you more about this journey in my next post.

I believe that when you find yourself, you find out about the things you really want, need and like in your life. You find out who you really are as a person and become more aware of your personal traits, your strengths and your flaws. You find your true identity. The most important aspect, the one that makes it so important that you get to know yourself like that, is the aspect of finding out what you NEED.

Too many people live their lives based on what others think, or tell them about who they are. They live up to standards that might not even suit them as individuals, but what they think should be good for them, because of what they are used to, or what they have been told. Some people find out too late what they need, might have a hard time accepting it and others, don’t find out at all. If more people would constantly reflect on their lives and get out of cycles that make them unhappy, it wouldn’t just benefit them as individuals, but it would be beneficial for their environment too. Especially people who have that kind of freedom should take more advantage of it, because unfortunately there are many people in this world, who don’t have that type of freedom at all. If we want to make changes in the world, we need to start with ourselves. That way we can be role models and inspirations for others as well.
