I think the value of small acts of kindness or helping people on a small scale is being underestimated.

In a world like ours where so many of us are interested in changing the world on a big level, we tend to forget about the small things we can do that would help people and could really change the world. Lots of people want to jump from 0 – 100. They want to create huge platforms to help others. I think that social media plays its part in this situation as well, because people tend to see what others create and believe that only a huge platform would make a difference, because that way they could reach so many people. Well, yes it could – but at the same time, we cannot forget about the small things we can do in our everyday lives to help people and to help making the world a better place. If we really want to support and help people in their lives, we should start by thinking about how we spend our time. So many of us claim to live such “busy” lives, wasting their time with unnecessary activities, like scrolling through social media, instead of looking around and absorbing what is happening around us. Sometimes, it seems like people tend to think that everything has to be a big deal to be valuable. People think that only if they have enough money to create big platforms, or if they have a huge following, they can make a difference. They try to be heroes, while forgetting about the fact that they can do so many valuable things without any of these ressources. People start underestimating the value of seemingly small helpful things, or acts of kindness, while being busy thinking about their plans of becoming a hero. On a side note – if you want to be a hero and aim to immediately work on such a huge level in the first place, you should reflect on your intentions. Is it about you? Do you want to be recognized as a hero, or is it really about helping others? I’m not saying that it’s bad to aim for bigger goals, or to create huge platforms to help more people, but if your real intention is to help others, you can start right where you are.

You could start by making people feel seen and heard.

The root of many problems starts at this point. At the point where people do not feel seen and heard. You could practice being a good listener and observer. Being mindful and paying attention to your surroundings, to other people’s words, actions, and their body language. You can practice responding to people on a deeper level. For example – When someone did / said something that you liked, you can tell them. Not just by saying that you thought it was good, but by telling them what exactly it was that you liked. You can share your knowledge with others, or recommend things to them, that might help them in their situations. You can support them in many different ways.

These things might seem small, but all these things could change people’s lives and all these changes can help to make this world a better place.
