"Try something new."

How many of you feel like you are stuck in a routine?

How many of you are tired of this routine?

Have you ever considered to try something new?

​

Well, I can tell you that if you are feeling tired and stuck, tired of doing the same things over and over again, you are not alone. I found myself in this place many times and a lot of my friends did too.

So – what can we do about it? The answer: Try something new.

You don’t have to make major changes immediately, for example if you are tired of cleaning up at home, or doing certain things at work, I’m not saying quit your job, or stop cleaning, but you could try cleaning the house in a different way, for example put on some music or a podcast that you enjoy. The same for your job, maybe try to see the tasks in a different way, more as an opportunity, or do them right away, so that you are done instead of pushing them until the very end. Also, we have to remember that there will always be some things in our lives that aren’t our favourite things to do. But besides all this, we sure can try new things in our free time.

The funny fact about this is, that I see a lot of people and believe me, I have experienced this myself too, who are feeling tired of doing the same things, but also don’t really make an effort to bring something new and fresh into their lives. You wonder why that is? There is one word that describes it pretty well = COMFORT.

We complain about boring routines, but when it comes to actually stepping out on a free day and try something new, we find so many excuses, because in the end it is more comfortable just complaining and remaining seated on the sofa or in bed, to rest and watch Netflix, or scrolling through social media. Do you really not have time to go to that yoga class, that your friend has been asking you for, since weeks? What about the rock climbing lesson you wanted to take, or the cooking class? Didn’t you say you wanted to start a Youtube channel?

I’m not saying that once we try something new we have to stick to it and become professionals in all these things, but it gives us a chance to figure out what we really like and it makes our lives more interesting. We are breaking out of the routine, we might even get to know new people, will learn something new and the most important fact – have fun and make memories!

 

Another very important factor that stops people from trying new things is fear. I have invited many of my friends to come take a dance class with me – the answer that I heard the most:” I can’t dance.” How do you know, when you have never really tried? And who goes to take a class because she/he can already dance perfectly? This is the reason why people go and take classes - to learn. The reason for not trying is not because we can’t do something. It is because we are afraid of trying and failing. We are afraid to embarrass ourselves, afraid of injuries, etc.

But really, especially when we are afraid, it is important to try what we are afraid of. When we did something we feared, we will afterwards be incredibly proud of ourselves. It will help us feel more confident and brave in the end.

I experienced this myself, when I participated at poetry slams and dance battles. I was absolutely afraid, but in the end, so proud that I pushed myself to do it.

Sometimes it helps to have people by your side that you are close to and trust. Sometimes it helps to try something new by yourself.
